Tigers pull out thrilling 4-3 win over IWU

After a tough loss to Cumberland on Wednesday, Georgetown Men's Tennis felt Friday's matchup against Indiana Wesleyan was one they could win. The day went the distance, but the Tigers were able to grind out a 4-3 win.

The Tigers' top doubles tandem of Will Barnes and Leo Schirmer impressed again with a 6-4 win. Indiana Wesleyan came back to take the last 2 doubles matches and steal the team point.

In singles, Georgetown got 2 wins via injury retirements. Will Barnes was up 7-5 in his match and Chase Hechemy led 6-2 before their opponents had to withdraw. Leo Schirmer and Tsugu Hirose both fell in 3rd set tiebreaks as IWU held a 3-2 lead.

All eyes went to #5 and #6 singles to determine who would come out on top. Alex Straiger was up in #5 singles. After dropping the 1st set, 1-6, Straiger fought back to take the 2nd, 6-3. The match went to a single point tiebreak in the 3rd, which Straiger won to tie the overall score at 3-3. Stephen Taylor removed all Tiger doubt with a dominating 6-2, 6-3 win in #6 singles for the clinching point.
