Men's Tennis Blanked at No. 16 Cumberland (Tenn.)
LEBANON, Tenn. - The Georgetown College men's tennis team knew that they had a tall order in front of them on Sunday afternoon with the 16th-ranked Cumberland University Phoenix. The Tigers were coming off a hard fought match the day before, and the Phoenix took advantage to complete a sweep of Georgetown in the day's action.
Cumberland (8-6, 4-1 MSC) took all but five games in doubles play, and they rode that momentum to the 7-0 sweep of Georgetown (7-9, 2-2 MSC).
The Tigers were unable to build much momentum in doubles play, and that resulted in a struggle on the singles side as well. The Phoneix rode their quick start to six wins in straight sets - though the Tigers were competitive in several matches - to a 7-0 win.
Georgetown will be back in action next weekend when they make the trip north in the MSC. The Tigers will battle the Shawnee State University Bears (2-4, 0-1 MSC) on Friday afternoon and the Saints of Thomas More University (6-6, 2-2 MSC) on Saturday. Friday's match will begin at 1 p.m., while Saturday's action is scheduled to commence at 4:30 p.m.
