Men's Tennis Drops Spring Break Finale To LTU
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Georgetown College men's tennis team wrapped up their spring break trip on Wednesday afternoon, and they were looking to build some momentum before heading home to open Mid-South Conference play this weekend. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they struggled to put away some key matches, and they fell to Lawrence Technological University (Mich.).
Georgetown (5-7) was within a single break of taking the doubles point, and they dropped two key first sets in singles play by just one break, as they fell to the Blue Devils (10-11), 5-2.
Cole Wilson and Parker Clarke battled their way to victory at the top of the doubles lineup, but that was the only doubles victory Georgetown secured, and that gave the point to LTU who took the 1-0 lead into singles action. Both Wilson and Clarke were competitive in the first sets of their matches in singles play, but they were unable to find the break they needed to take the win in either case. Tsugunosuke Hirose grabbed a three set victory at fourth singles, and Logan Smallwood won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, but that was all the Tigers were able to do as they dropped the match to LTU 5-2.
Georgetown will return to the Lackey Tennis Center on Saturday to open their Mid-South Conference schedule. The Tigers will do battle with the Bethel University (Tenn.) Wildcats (3-2) on Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. Eastern.
