Men's Tennis Outlasts Indiana-East
GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Georgetown College men's tennis team opened their home schedule for the spring season on Friday afternoon at the Lackey Tennis Center, and the match was one that kept fans in suspense from start to finish.
The Tigers (4-4) battled the Indiana University East Red Wolves (2-5), and the match came down to a three-set thriller at the second singles pairing which was won by Georgetown to give the Tigers a 4-3 win in the dual.
Georgetown started quickly with their top two doubles tandems taking victories to secure the point for doubles action. Cole Wilson and Parker Clarke won in the top spot, and Zach White and Tsugunosuke Hirose took the win at second doubles.
Georgetown took the 1-0 lead into singles play, but the Red Wolves fought hard. Five of the six singles tilts were straight-sets wins with Wilson and Logan Smallwood taking wins for Georgetown at number one and number four singles, respectively, but IU-East took wins at third, fifth, and sixth singles to knot things up at 3-3. In the deciding match, it was Georgetown's White who emerged victorious in three sets to claim victory for the Tigers.
Up next for Georgetown is a trip south for the Spring Break Festival in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
