Men's Tennis Sweeps MVNU to Open Spring
RICHMOND, Ky. - The Georgetown College men's tennis team took to the courts at nearby Eastern Kentucky University on Friday afternoon to open the spring portion of their 2021-22 schedule. The Tigers battled the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougars, and Georgetown claimed victory in dominating fashion.
Georgetown (1-2) opened with a sweep of the doubles competition to take the first team point of the day, then followed with a dominant singles performance in which they lost only nine games in the six matches in dispatching with Mt. Vernon Nazarene (1-11), 7-0.
In doubles play, Logan Smallwood and Matthew Smith came in first with a 6-0 win in the third doubles match, and they were followed by Cole Wilson and Parker Clarke (6-1) and Tsugunosuke Hirose and Zach White (6-2) to complete the doubles sweep.
Chase Hechemy won his singles match without losing a game in either set, as he claimed victory at No. 5 Singles 6-0, 6-0. Zach White at No. 2 Singles and Jared Towell in the No. 6 singles position each lost only one game, Logan Smallwood and Stephen Taylor claimed 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 Singles, respectively, and Cole Wilson took a 6-0, 6-3 win in the top singles spot to complete the sweep of the day's activities.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday morning at the Top Seed Tennis Center in Nicholasville, Kentucky. They will take on the Asbury University Eagles (0-0) at 9 a.m.
