Berk seals Tigers win over Bellarmine
Georgetown College men's tennis leveled its spring record with a solid 6-3 win Saturday over NCAA Division II Bellarmine University. The Tigers traveled to Louisville for an indoor match and despite a slow start in doubles, dominated in the singles competition – winning five of the six competitions there.
Ryo Takeda and Tristan Nosek scored three of the teams points. They were the lone doubles team to win for GC. The duo defeated Sam Rueff and Matt Momper 8-4.
Takeda defeated Rueff in singles, 6-2, 6-2 – leveling the match at 2-2. Nosek put the team ahead for good with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Momper.
Phillip Hoeper put the Tigers ahead for good with a 6-4, 6-3 singles win over Alex Swords.
"It was a great day for our men," said GC coach Jessica Cunningham. "Despite trailing 2-1 in doubles, they never showed signs of doubting their ability. They played great singles matches and never allowed Bellarmine to get a foothold there."
BU's Andrew Jones added drama to the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Isaac Mathis. This put the score board at 4-3 with two singles matches still to be played.
AJ Berk sealed the win with a 7-6, 4-6 (1-0) win over Joe Neville. Hunter Nosek added a bonus point when he won 6-2, 6-4 over Nick Johnson.
Georgetown is back in action 4 pm Thursday at Midway University.
