Georgetown College men's soccer pushed Cumberland University to a double overtime but not a minute into it, the Phoenix finished the game with a golden goal.
The Tigers (10-2-1, 5-2-1) were held to two corner kicks, tying the season low previous from the weather shortened tie with Campbellsville University a few weeks back. Both came in the first half, including one in the first three minutes.
GC thrives on set pieces. Unfortunately, it was the Phoenix (10-2-1, 6-1-1) using a set piece to get the win on a restart after a foul early in the second overtime.
Overtime works by the first 10 minutes teams play the full time no matter if a goal is scored. If it is still tied, a second overtime is golden goal – if a team scores the game ends.
This is the second game this week Georgetown went to double overtime. The Tigers won on a golden goal against University of Tennessee Southern, but were not as fortunate Sunday.
GC is back in action 6 pm Wednesday hosting University of the Cumberlands.
