Late goal lifts Tigers over Bears
Noel Roman found Nick Gregory inside the six with just less than 15 minutes to play Tuesday in Georgetown College men's soccer game with University of Pikeville. Gregory finished the ball and it proved to be the game-winner as the Tigers improve to 7-6, 2-3 in Mid-South Conference action.
The 1-0 loss drops the Bears to 2-10-1 and 0-5. GC sits fifth in the league standings with two games left to play – 8 pm Friday against Life University (7-7, 2-3) and Oct. 28 at University of the Cumberlands (7-4-3, 3-1).
It was Gregory's 11th goal of the season – a new career season-high. It was Roman's fourth assist of the season.
"I'm really pleased with our performance today," said GC coach Derek Willis. "UPike is a tough place to play at. We were able to remain patient without giving too much away defensively until Noel was able to get in behind and play a beautiful ball to Nick for the tap in."
GC is back in action for its final home game of the season, hosting the Running Eagles Friday.
