Darien Lewis paces Tigers to 11th straight win

After watching the women get going in The Show on Friday night, Georgetown Men's Basketball had its turn on Saturday night against Tennessee Wesleyan. The Tigers scored the 1st 7 points on the night and never trailed in an 88-62 win to move to 11-0 on the season. The start is the Tigers' best since the 2019-20 season.

Andres Burney got the night going with 2 buckets in the first 41 seconds for the early lead. Darien Lewis followed with a 3 off a feed from Dre Boyd and the Tigers had the quick 7-0 lead. After Tennessee Wesleyan got on the board with 4 straight, Lewis knocked down another 3 to keep the lead at 6. The Bulldogs got as close as 17-16 with 11:59 to go in the half, but Lewis had the answer with a bucket inside with a free throw to boot. Tae Dozier then stole a pass and knocked down a 3 to push the lead to 23-16 with 11:21 left in the half. Gavin Stevens then followed with a bucket inside and TWU called a timeout to try to stop the 8-0 run. The Bulldogs got within 5 at 30-25 with 7:23 to go in the half. They wouldn't score for another 3 minutes as the Tigers went on a run of 9 straight to take a 14-point lead. Dre Boyd punctuated the half with a dunk in the final seconds to give Georgetown a 47-31 lead at the break.

Georgetown's defense set the tone to start the 2nd half. Tennessee Wesleyan did not score for the first 5 minutes, 38 seconds as Georgetown grew the lead to 59-31 thanks to a 12-0 run. TWU missed its first 10 shots and turned the ball over twice to start. The Bulldogs then began to settle in with baskets but still could not slow down the Tigers' attack. After the 12-0 start to the half, Tennessee Wesleyan never got the margin under 20 the rest of the way.

Darien Lewis led the Tigers with 17 points. Jabrion Spikes scored 13 of his 16 in the first half. Jaquias Franklin knocked down 3 more threes en route to 13 points off the bench. Dre Boyd, Andres Burney and Ajani Blyden scored 8 apiece. Gavin Stevens scored just a single basket but grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds off the bench.

The Tigers go for 12 straight on Sunday as they take on Saint Francis (IN) at The Show in Kingsport, TN. Tip time is set for 2:30pm.
