#7 Tigers open season with 60-point win

For the 13th time in 14 seasons under Chris Briggs, Georgetown opened the season ranked inside the top 10. The 7th-ranked Tigers put on a show in Monday night's opener with a 107-47 win over the Carolina Christian Centurions.

Aden Nyekan and Tae Dozier scored the first 2 buckets of the game and Georgetown never looked back. Newcomer Jaquias Franklin hit his 1st three as a Tiger at the 16:31 mark to give GC an early 9-2 edge, forcing the Centurions into a timeout. The highlight of the night came with 12 minutes to go in the half. Tae Dozier applied strong defensive pressure at midcourt and poked the ball away. Dozier raced to the other end and brought the house down with a spectacular 360 dunk. He followed it with another slam just moments later for a 24-7 Georgetown lead.

Coming off the bench in this one, Jabrion Spikes made his presence felt immediately. Entering with 13 minutes to go in the half, Spikes made easy work inside and scored 13 first half points en route to a game-high 24 to go with 6 assists. Georgetown shot 53% in the first half, including 71% on 2-point shots. Defensively, the Tigers held the Centurions to just 6 made baskets and forced an incredible 16 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. It all added up to a 50-19 lead at the break.

The beat went on in the 2nd half as Georgetown continued to stretch the lead. Andres Burney made an impression during his Tiger debut with 9 points and 8 boards after halftime, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds on the night. Six of the nine players in uniform reached double figures in the win. Darien Lewis finished with 15. Aden Nyekan and Tae Dozier added 12 & 10, respectively. Owen Shee tallied 10 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Jaquias Franklin and Scotty Browning each scored 9. Gavin Stevens ended with 4 points and 7 rebounds.

Georgetown's defense held Carolina Christian to just 2-16 shooting beyond the arc and forced 26 turnovers, leading to 40 Georgetown points. The Tigers also held a crushing edge inside, outscoring Carolina Christian, 70-18, in the paint.

The Tigers next head to Kansas City for the Live Like Remy Memorial Invitational starting on Friday night against Park with an 8:00pm ET tip time.
