Georgetown College men's basketball watched a 19-point edge whittle down to four, but had enough in the final minute to hold off Cumberland University. The No. 21 Tigers (11-2, 4-2) blistered the nets in the first half to help defeated the Phoenix, 72-68.
Seth Johnson went one-of-two from the foul line and Derrin Boyd slipped behind the press for a breakaway layup off a pass from Drew LaMont. Those points were enough to keep the cushion and leave Tennessee with a win.
GC shot better than 60 percent from the field, above 40 from deep, for a 44-25 halftime lead behind shooting from LaMont and Johnson. Derrin Boyd picked up in the second half. Boyd finished with a game-high 21 points, chipping in seven rebounds. Jermaine Patterson had 14 points and LaMont 10. Kyran Jones grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Tigers.
Georgetown now enters the holiday break, returning to action 8 pm Jan. 3 at Campbellsville University.
