Georgetown College men's basketball started on a tear Thursday back in Mid-South Conference action. The No. 21 Tigers (10-2, 3-2) scored 12 of the first 14 points and never looked back against Lindsey Wilson College. The Blue Raiders (7-6, 0-5) made it interesting with a run of their own, but could not sustain it in a 76-57 loss at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
Kyran Jones started with the hot hand, tallying a double-double by halftime – 12 points, 12 rebounds. The sophomore finished with 14 of each.
Derrin Boyd was unconscious in the second half, dropping 16 of his game-high 19 points in the final 20 minutes. He was 6-of-7 from the field in that stretch. He also added seven rebounds and five assists, while playing lockdown defense on LWC's leading scorer. Elijah Jordan came into the game averaging 15.5 points, and did not score until late in the second half to finish with two points.
Jayrese Williams and Seth Johnson chipped in with 11 points each.
Georgetown finishes the first part of the season Saturday with a 2 pm EST showdown with Cumberland University. The Phoenix defeated Campbellsville, 77-61, Thursday to improve to 7-2 and 3-2.
