Lions claw it out against the Tigers

Georgetown College men's basketball ran out of steam in a physical battle Saturday against Freed-Hardeman University. The Lions (7-3, 3-1) came in scraping to hand the No. 17 Tigers (8-2, 2-2) a second Mid-South Conference loss, 79-70.

GC had its largest just a nudge more than half way through the first 20 minutes – 10 points, while FHU responded and clawed back to hold a nine-point edge late in the second half.

The Tigers used their next two possessions for a tip-in and a lay-up to pull back with in five, but got no closer. Clutch shooting and rebounding helped the visitors walk away with a win at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

Drew LaMont score a team-high 19 and Jayrese Williams added 16. The Lions zeroed in on Georgetown's leading scorer, making it tough on Derrin Boyd all night. The freshman averages just shy of 20 points a game, but managed just six on two-of-12 shooting. Jermaine Patterson had nine points and six rebounds. Kyran Jones, still hampered by injury, managed eight points and eight rebounds in limited action.

The Tigers step out of conference play for a game with a 7 pm Tuesday showdown with Indiana University Southeast.
