Tigers outlast Bulldogs in slugfest

Georgetown College men's basketball had to battle it out in a scrap feast on day one of the Central Bank Jim Reid Classic. The No. 16 Tigers (6-1) beat Wilberforce University Bulldogs (4-7) 85-77.

Derrin Boyd led the charge with 17 points. Jermaine Patterson and Kyran Jones each had 11, while Jayrese Williams and Michael Turay chipped in 10 each.

Boyd and the Bulldogs traded layups late in the game for a 79-77 game. Seth Johnson helped ice the game away with an offensive rebound, muscling up a layup. Then dropped in a fast break layup off a pass from Boyd and a six-point lead.

Georgetown is back in action noon Saturday to finish off the Jim Reid Classic against Greenville University. The Panthers are averaging 100-plus points a game and opened the event in a thrilling, fast-paced game with Midway University. The Eagles won 157-135.
