Georgetown College men's basketball opened up the 2021-22 season with flare. Kentucky Christian University made it interesting for a half, but the Tigers raced away in the final 20 minutes for a 103-68 victory.
It was a 10-point Tiger (1-0) edge at the break as KCU (0-1) turned up the heat and relied on threes and layups for quick points. However, GC held the Knights to almost half their first half total while more than doubling up its own to cruise to the first win of the season.
Derrin Boyd led with 19, while Kyran Jones had 17 points and an astounding 18 rebounds. The night was highlighted by two dunks – one in each half. Michael Turay (14 points) rocked the rim on a put back dunk in the first half; while Tae Dozier (13 points) rattled it on a fast break in the second. Jermaine Patterson also finished in double digits with 13.
Patterson (7) and Trey Jones (6) also got in on the rebounding dominance, GC 51-27. Jaquay Wales continues to be the straw that stirs the drink, dishing out six assists and cashing in seven points as well.
The Tigers are back in action 1 pm Saturday hosting Miami University Middletown.
