Gardiner ignites rally as Tigers stay undefeated

Poindexter scores 22 in second half

Georgetown College men's basketball faced its toughest test to date Thursday evening against Bethel University. The No. 4 Tigers (6-0) spotted Bethel University an 11-0 lead and scored just 11 points themselves in the first 11 minutes. Jahyde Gardiner started a 14-2 run to put GC in the driver's seat for good.

The burst was capped by back-to-back Tiger threes. Gardiner hit the first and Trent Gilbert gave GC a 26-23 led it never relinquished.

Quan Poindexter dealt with early foul trouble, but exploded for all of his team-high 22 points in the final 20 minutes. He also snagged nine rebounds, eight defensive, a spot where Georgetown struggled.

Bethel had 30 offensive rebounds and won the battle of the boards 49-37.

Shadell Millinghaus had 18 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double. Eight of his rebounds were defensive. He and Poindexter accounted for 16 of GC's 30 defensive rebounds.

Gilbert finished with 14 points, while Troy Steward chipped in with 13.

It was a good day all the way around for the Mid-South Conference in the second annual MSC-SSAC Crossover Challenge. The MSC went perfect on the day as Campbellsville University defeated No. 25 Martin Methodist College and University of Pikeville defeated Brewton-Parker University.

GC is back in action against Martin Methodist 6 pm Friday, while Campbellsville and BPU open the day at 4 and Pikeville and Bethel cap day two at 8 pm.
