Gilbert's threes spark another big win, 120-71
Trent Gilbert hit is second of eight threes in the first half Monday, helping Georgetown College men's basketball take the lead for good against Ohio State University-Lima. GC cruised 120-71.
The No. 4 Tigers (5-0) trailed 11-9 when the senior guard heated up. He hit seven of his next nine threes, including one falling down and several from another zip code. Georgetown led 67-32 at the break behind Gilbert's 24 points.
Troy Steward took over in the second half, pouring in 13 of his 20 points. Seven Tigers finished in double figures: Gilbert 24, Steward 20, Jacob Conway 19, Quan Poindexter 15, Dusan Prelo 13, Jahyde Gardiner 12 and Jeremiah Tisdale 12.
Eljay Cowherd was the straw that stirred the drink with an eye-popping new career-high 13 assists. This ties him for fourth on the in-game top 10s. George Baker dished out 13 in 2003-04 against Ohio State University-Newark.
GC is back in action Thursday, Friday and Saturday as the team host the second annual Mid-South Conference-Southern States Athletic Conference Crossover Challenge. Three Top 25 teams will participate – Georgetown, No. 14 University of Pikeville and No. 25 Martin Methodist College. The Tigers start 8 pm Thursday against Bethel. Then it is a 6 pm tip Friday against Martin Methodist and 11 am start Saturday against Brewton-Parker.
Games are 4, 6 and 8 on Thursday and Friday and 11, 1 and 3 on Saturday.
