Defense helps Tigers beat Saints

Georgetown College football's defensive unit flexed its muscle Friday night, helping the team to a 24-14 win over Thomas More University Friday in Crestview Hills.

The No. 16 Tigers (5-1) scored 24 unanswered points after the Saints (2-4) grabbed the early lead. GC trailed at the end of the first quarter and in the early going of the second until a Payton Standifer interception put the offense in a short field situation.

Zach Dampier, on the TMU 17-yard line, found Darius Barbour for the game-tying score. The ensuing series, the Saints went backward and another short field allowed the Tigers to take the lead for good when Dampier found Jake Johnson for his second touchdown pass.

The defense also scored on a forced fumble and recovery by Marcus Omosule for the final Georgetown points late in the third quarter. Also, in the third, Chris Cline added a 29-yard field goal.

Thomas More had a six-play drive late in the fourth for its final score to bookend the game with touchdowns.
