Tigers improve to 2-0 with second road win
Georgetown College football returned to the gridiron Friday in a rainy game at Cumberland University. The Tigers (2-0) scored 19-unanswered points and cruised to victory number two on the season. GC's defense forced four turnovers, resulting in seven points, as the road warriors won 19-7.
The Orange & Black will open at home 3:30 pm Friday hosting No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College.
Jake Johnson continued to enjoy playing CU. He tallied 89 yards on six catches with one touchdown. Hunter Krause and Zach Dampier split time under center. Each connect on nine passes, but Krause had 154 yards and the score to Johnson. Isaiah Cobb rushed for 41 yards on 12 carries.
Payton Standifer and Sander Roksvag each tallied seven tackles. DJ recovered a fumble, while Rob Sheffield came up with two interceptions.
Nick Conley's five-yard touchdown run capped a five-play, 39-yard drive that took just more than a minute to put the visitors on the board. Chris Cline booted the winning score through the uprights from 30-yards out with just more than a minute left in the first quarter.
Defense got a score, sacking CU's quarterback in the endzone for a safety and a 12-0 lead in the third quarter.
Krause found Johnson for the final score, capping an eight-play, 49-yard drive.
Cumberland finished the scoring off on a seven-yard rush with 3:30 left in the third quarter.
