Cardinals invite Seither to rookie mini-camp

Nick Seither is taking his next step in a process to hopefully play in the National Football League. The 6-foot-3 defensive end for Georgetown College watched patiently Thursday, Friday and Saturday but did not get an official draft call. However, a few hours later the phone did ring. The Arizona Cardinals, which has been showing the most interest throughout these past few weeks, invited him to this weekend's rookie min-camp.

"I leave Thursday morning out of Lexington and hopefully coming back Sunday night with a contract," Seither said. "I enter the mini-camp as a free agent, which means I'm not under contract and they are just working me out to see if I can fit in their scheme. It was cool to get the call and be invited. I was hoping to go in the draft, but this is a great opportunity and the process continues."

The Cardinals are not the only team that came calling after the draft wrapped up Saturday evening. The Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals did as well with invites to their rookie camps, however all are going on this weekend and so the Hamilton, Ohio native had to pick just one.

"Arizona wants me as an outside linebacker, which I think fits more with my strengths," Seither said. "I had to weigh my options. Cincinnati wanted me to move to a defensive tackle in their system, and I just didn't think that was best.

"If things don't work out with Arizona with a definite contract this weekend, I could still be invited to their training camp later this summer or the Bengals or Colts might also extend an offer to training camp. I just keep working hard and following this process through. Hopefully in the end it all works out."

He will pack a bag of workout clothes and his football gear, leave out of Georgetown around 4 am with his college roommates and board a plane at 5:15 am to start the journey to Arizona.

He will join several other rookies who are also looking for contracts coming out of the weekend. The Cardinals are basing this invite off highlight film and his Eastern Kentucky University pro day workout.

"They like what they see, but it's understandable that they want to see me in action live," Seither said. "These three days down in Arizona will be a weekend long workout."
