Seither playing draft waiting game

Many young men across the country are playing a waiting game that will draw to a close by Sunday evening. Georgetown College's Nick Seither is among those football athletes patiently in anticipation of a call from the NFL Draft, which starts 8 pm Thursday.

"Nick is just waiting word," said GC coach Bill Cronin. "He's got several teams interested in him. We have no idea what round, probably one of the later ones if he gets drafted. Even if not, he'll most like be a free agent and getting to a camp is what matters."

Seither participated in a pro day at Eastern Kentucky University earlier this spring and then was a special invite to the Cincinnati Bengals pro day. The 6-foot-3 defensive end ran a 4.53 in the 40 with 31 repetitions of benching 225 pounds. His vertical jump was 39 with a broad jump of 10.01.

Seither finished his senior season ranked 11th nationally for his nine sacks. He finished his career at Georgetown with 17.5 sacks for a loss of 125.8 yards, putting him 10th all-time in yards lost from a sack.

He was Mid-South Conference East Defensive Player of the Year as well as NAIA All-American. This past weekend at the GC Awards, his peers recognized him as Male Athlete of the Year.

"Nick is really competitive and loves football," Cronin said. "What we know is that several teams are interested and it seems of those the Arizona Cardinals are showing the most interest. However, once all the buzz dies down, what matters is getting a chance to be at the training camp and get a shot to make the team. I think Nick has all the upside for doing that."

Along with the Cardinals, the Texans, Colts and Bengals have shown interest in the Hamilton, Ohio native.

Kyle Anderson is the most recent Tiger to be a free agent and get invited to the Cleveland Browns camp in 2011. In 2005, Jordan Hicks was invited as a free agent to a camp and eventually played several years with Tampa Bay and Oakland before going to Europe with the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Reese Hicks, Jordan's brother, was another Tiger that went from free agency to playing in the NFL for a few seasons. He spent time with the Browns, the Eagles, the Broncos and the Bengals as well as playing a year in Europe for Scottish Claymores.
