Phoenix Sweep Tigers
LEBANON, Tenn. – The Georgetown College baseball team (8-26, 1-11 MSC) played a road Mid-South Conference series at Cumberland University (17-20, 4-5 RSC) on Friday and Saturday at Ernest L. Stockton Field.
Cumberland won the opening game 13-2 on Friday.
On Saturday, the Phoenix won game two 14-1, while Cumberland closed the series with a 16-6 win in the finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
The Tigers managed one hit in the top of the first before the Phoenix plated three in the home half. A passed ball and a pair of RBI doubles made it 3-0 Cumberland. A scoreless second inning brought on the third where Diondre Jacob went yard to cut it to a 3-2 game. The Phoenix got those runs back, though, with back-to-back bombs in the bottom of the inning. A bases-loaded walk plated the fifth run as it was an 8-2 game through three innings. Another homer marked the fourth for the Phoenix who also scored off a bases-loaded hit by pitch. After a quiet fifth inning, the Phoenix tacked on a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to make it a 13-2 game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE
* Elijah Verge went 2-3 with a run scored.
* Diondre Jacob was 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
* Sam Turilli went 1-3.
* Chris Lenocker (1-6) took the loss, going 2.2 innings. He surrendered eight runs and struck out one, allowing eight hits and two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
With two gone in the top of the first, Georgetown scored its only run of the game behind a Diondre Jacob double to right-center field. The Phoenix were kept off the scoreboard in the first but plated three in the second and six more in the third. A five run fourth inning closed the scoring as the Phoenix claimed game two, 14-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO
* Diondre Jacob was 1-3 with one RBI.
* Davis Johnson went 1-3.
* Elijah Verge was 1-2 with a run scored.
* Alec Krogel (2-3) took the loss, tossing 2.2 innings, allowing nine runs off nine hits while striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME THREE
Both teams plated three runs in the first. Georgetown off an Oakland Flodell two-run shot to right and a throwing error. The Phoenix brought three home off a two-run single and an error as well. Cumberland scored in the second off a bases-loaded hit by pitch before the Tigers' second three-run frame of the game. Aidan Jbara banged a two-run shot to right as the Tigers took a 6-4 lead. Cumberland plated five in the bottom half of the third. In the fourth, four more came home for the Phoenix. In the fifth, two more scored for the Phoenix as it was a 15-6 game through five. In the sixth, the Phoenix finished off the game with another bases-loaded run.

* Oakland Flodell was 2-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
* Elijah Verge went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
* Aidan Jbara was 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
* Sam Turilli (1-3) took the loss, tossing 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs off four hits while striking out two.
