Bears Take Two Off Tigers

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Georgetown College baseball team (8-23, 1-8 MSC) took on the University of Pikeville (19-12, 9-9 AAC) on Tuesday at Johnnie Lemaster Field.

Pikeville won the first game 4-3, and the Bears claimed the second game 12-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE      
After the Tigers left a runner on in the top of the first, Pikeville added two runs in the bottom half of the inning behind a groundout and a catcher's interference. With one away in the top of the second, the Tigers tied things up when Diondre Jacob smashed a ball over the left field fence. Just two hits marked the next two innings as it was Georgetown who broke the tie in the fifth. Elijah Verge reached off a fielder's choice which scored a run. Pikeville tied it up in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to right. Things stayed tied through seven innings and a walk-off single to center field gave the Bears game one, 4-3.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE      
Elijah Verge went 2-4 with an RBI.
* Aidan Jbara was 2-4 with a run scored.
Diondre Jacob went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
* Ashton Deskins (3-3) took the loss, going 1.2 innings. He surrendered one run and struck out one, allowing four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO     
Game two featured a scoreless two full innings before Pikeville erupted for a four-run third inning. The first three Bears reached base safely followed by a sacrifice fly and a three-run bomb to make it 4-0. Georgetown punched back with a three-run fourth inning which started off with a Verge double to left. Jacob singled him in and later scored when Luis Romero sent a ball past the left field fence, making it 4-3. In the fifth, Pikeville added seven more runs to lead 11-3. Aidan Jbara singled in a run before Diondre Jacob doubled in another in the sixth but that was all the offense Georgetown could muster, falling 12-5.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO      
Diondre Jacob was 2-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and a run scored.
Luis Romero went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Elijah Verge was 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Abel Ramos (0-1) took the loss, tossing 2.1 innings, allowing four runs off four hits while striking out one.
