Baseball drops opener vs Mighty Oaks

On a midweek bullpen day, Georgetown struggled against a talented Oakland City squad and dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 12-1.

Ashton Deskins got the start for Georgetown and after a quick 1st inning, the righthander struggled in the 2nd. The Mighty Oaks touched him up for 4 runs to grab the early lead. After a scoreless 3rd, Deskins found more trouble in the bottom of the 4th and was lifted after recording a single out and leaving 2 on for Dillon Bland. The Tiger reliever walked the first batter faced then gave up a 2-run single to left center for a 6-0 Mighty Oaks lead. After another walk, Bland gave up another 2-run single to cap a 4-run 4th as Oakland City grabbed an 8-0 lead heading to the 5th.

Georgetown's lone run came in the top of the 5th. Aidan Jbara led off with a double to center and would score on an RBI single by Jacob VonThaden. The Tigers wanted more but Jose Cazorla lined into a double play. Sam Turilli doubled to right center to extend the inning, but Jarrett Chapman flied out to center to end an extended rally.

Caleb Stahr took over on the mound for the 5th and gave up back-to-back doubles to start. A walk followed to load the bases. After a strikeout, Oakland City tacked on another run as Stahr hit the batter. An RBI single and RBI groundout followed for an 11-1 lead after 5.

Oakland City tacked on another in the bottom of the 6th via a solo home run for the final score.

Ashton Deskins took the loss, dropping to 0-4 on the year.
