Bullpen Fails Tigers Late
The Tigers switched it up in game two of the doubleheader, and they went on the offensive early. They got the bats going early, as Jarrett Chapman would crush a ball over the left field fence to even the game up in the second at 1. Later in the second, Andrew Cromwell would deliever once again, as he would clear the bases with a double down the left field line. This pushed the lead to 4-1. The Tigers would score their final run in the third, when Nick Lopez would score on a wild pitch. Following the third inning, the Phoenix pitchers locked down the Tigers offense, as they only had four hits over the final six innings. Hank Schineller and Jarrett Chapman would be the only Tigers with multiple hits in the game.
Julian Huerta would be making his second consecutive mid-week start against a ranked team. He hoped to have the same sucess as he did against Bryan, and I would say that he pitched well enough for five innings to give the Tigers a chance at the win. He would have an elevated pitch count for the game, as they were working deep counts against him, rather than Bryan's approach of swinging early. He would walk five and give up five on six hits.
Christian Santillanes would come on to clean up Huerta's mess, and strike out CU's two best players. In the 8th, Santillanes would work himself into danger due to a walk and multiple hit by pitches. CU would take the lead, and be enough to beat the Tigers. Josiah Zamora would then relieve Santillanes, and only allow one more run in the inning. Zamora would then get himself into trouble behind three HBP. Mason Mortimer would then enter, and try and heal the situation, but he would give up a sac-fly. CU would add three more in the 9th, and put the game out of reach late.
