Inability to Capitalize Cost Tigers Against Cougars

Playing the third game in as many days, the Tigers now hosted IU-Kokomo, to conclude this three day stretch. Coming off yesterday massive win against #16 Bryan, the Tigers looked to extend their little win streak to three games.

Tasked with the start was freshman Ashton Deskins, who was making his third start of the season and career. Over the course of his three innings, the base paths were crowded, as multiple Cougars would reach base and bother Deskins. In his final inning of work, Deskins would allow two baserunners on, and allow the second run to score. However, he would get a massive strike out to strand two runners on base.

Mason Mortimer would come on in relief in the 4th, Mortimer would give up two singles and a run to score.

In the fifth, Jalen Miller would come on for his second appearance of the year, but would not go as well as his maiden appearance. He would allow two runs on two hits, but he would get a double play to get out of the inning, after multiple walks.

In the sixth, it would be David Souza's turn to silence the Cougar offense. Two quick hits would add another run to the board.

For the final three innings, Pasquale DeFilippis would come on for the final three innings, and shut down the IUK offense. He would only allow a run in his first inning of work, but after that he would shut the door, and keep the Tigers offense within striking distance.

The offense was led once again by Nick Lopez. Lopez had half of the Tigers runs, with one of the RBI coming off a towering home run to left field. The other came in the first inning, when he laced a ball over the short stop's head to drive in Payton Rios. The other run in the first came from Rios, who drove in Josh Duarte.

The Tigers would not have a hit from the third inning, until the top of the ninth when Lopez doubled. However, this did not mean that the Tigers were not reaching base, they were thanks to 5 IUK errors, but were unable to ever make anything of it.

The Tigers are back in action this weekend for Senior Day on Friday, and a doubleheader on Saturday, with all games against Wilberforce.
