Huerta’s Pitching Dominance put Tigers Past #16 Bryan

Fresh off Sunday's offensive slugfest against Thomas More, the Tigers hosted #16 Bryan for a midweek matchup. Bryan is currently ranked 16th, while the Tigers are RV. It was destined to be a great matchup! All year long, BC has had a very potent offense, and today Julian Huerta was tasked with doing so. Huerta delivered massively for the Tigers as he would go a season high 8 innings on the bump. Huerta started off the afternoon nicely, as he got through the first two innings, with only two batters reaching. In the third, Huerta would give up his lone run of the game, when BC singled home a batter who doubled earlier in the inning.

That would be all that Huerta would surrender, as over the next five innings, Huerta would shut down the potent Lions offense. Only four batters would get hits, with only one batter reaching scoring position. Huerta controlled the strike zone, as he had all his pitches working, going in, away, up, down, and changing speeds. Huerta would leave after 98 pitches, where he would strike four out, walk one, and only allow one run.

Christian Santillanes would come on for the ninth, and try and close out the upset against #16 BC. Santillanes would walk the first batter, but would get a taylormade ground ball to Josiah Zamora, who was able to flip it to Jarrett Chapman, who tossed it to Hank Schineller to get the much needed double play. Huerta would get the win in this contest, to move him to 3-2, and give the Tigers their 20th win of the year.

Huerta's battery mate, Nick Lopez, was the main offensive threat, as he had four of the five RBI. His great day at the plate started in the first inning, when he singled home Jose Cazorla in the first. Again in the third, Lopez would deliver two runs on his double down the right field line, to score Chapman and Duarte. Lopez would score the final run in the seventh, when he singled home Chapman for the second time. Lopez and Chapman's multi hit games led the Tigers offensively today, but multiple other Tigers had hits.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow at home, as they host IU-Kokomo at 4 pm. This is their second matchup in as many weeks, as last week IUK defeated the Tigers 13-4.
