9th Inning Stuns GC as Skid Continues
Looking to break out after 14 scoreless innings, the first inning proved to be everything the Tigers needed. In the first inning the Tigers scored 5 quick runs. RBI singles from Jarrett Chapman, Nick Lopez, and Hank Schineller propelled the Tigers to a quick 3-0 lead. With two runners in scoring position, Josiah Zamora would single home both runs with a single through the left side. Following this point, the Tigers' bats went cold until the 8th inning. In the 8th, Hunter Klingelhoffer is on second, and pinch hitter Jose Cazorla is up to hit. Cazorla singles home an essential insurance run, as the lead grew to 6-4. After CU put up 5 in the top of the 9th, the Tigers went 3 up 3 down to end the game.
Making his second consecutive conference start, Julian Huerta got the nod in game two of the series and doubleheader. Huerta would go another seven innings and allow four runs, all unearned. In the fourth, Huerta gave up a lead-off double, but fought back quickly to get two outs. An error by first baseman, Schineller, would lead to CU's first run. A single would then allow another run to score in the 4th. CU would also score two more in the fifth behind some Tigers errors.
Fast forward to the 9th, and CU storms back to score 5 runs to capture the lead. Backed by hits, walks, and hit by pitches propelled this rally. The Tigers losing skid extended to six games, as they have dropped the last three doubleheaders.
Game three of the series is set to be played sometime this weekend, depending on weather. The games are being played at CU, as the damage at Robert N. Wilson Field is still ongoing.
