6 Home Runs Propel Tigers to DH Sweep
The fireworks started early in game 2 of the doubleheader. Hank Schineller would hit 2nd home run of the day and the first of the game. His home run and a sac-fly from Nick Lopez put the Tigers up 2-0 after the first inning. Fast forward to the third inning, and the fireworks start to go off again. This time, junior Jarrett Chapman would clear the bases with a grand slam, for his second of the day and first of game 2. Through the top of the third, the Tigers were up 7-0. This would be the first inning, in which the Tigers put up a crooked number on offense. Coming back in the 4th, Jose Cazorla would double home the 8th run. Josiah Zamora would also add another run on a fielder's choice. At the top of the 6th, the fireworks went off again as three Tigers would leave the yard. Nick Lopez would start of the inning with a home run to left field. After a pitching change, Hank Schineller would go the other way for his second home run of the day and third of the day. Chapman would then finish off the inning with another home run to left field for his second of the game and third of the day. In the bottom of the eighth, Chapman would get another rbi thanks to a fielders choice. In the 9th, the Tigers would add on four more runs. Nick Lopez would single home a run for the 14th run of the game. Then with two runners on in scoring position, Schineller would come up to the plate. He would then leave the yard again for the third time, giving the Tigers an additional three runs for a six-run cushion.
Senior Matthew Flores would get the start in game two of the series. Flores who had been good for the Tigers up to this point struggled in this one. He only managed to get 7 outs on the day, while giving up 4 runs in that time. He was pulled in the third for senior reliever Andrew Day. Day would close out Flores' line with a tailor-made double play to get them out of the inning with only four scoring. Coming back in the next inning, Day would get hurt by a walk and home run, which would end his day. Christian Santillanes would be next in line for the Tigers, and he would soak up the rest of the pressure FHU would exert. He would go 4.1 innings and get the win while allowing four runs to score and striking out four. Julian Huerta would come in to get one out in the 8th and the final three in the 9th. Huerta would allow one unearned run but would get the save and close out game 2 for the Tigers.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow for the series finale against Freed-Hardeman, as they look to go for the sweep. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
