10 Runs Back Castillo’s Outing
Senior lefty Johan Castillo was back on the mound for the Tigers today for their Mid-South Conference opener. Castillo did what he does best, and that is to go out there and give the bats a chance to win it. He did not throw his third complete game in a row, but he did the next best thing by going six innings and only allowing for three runs to score. The long ball hurt Castillo today, as he gave up two solo home runs in the bottom of the 5th and 6th. For the first three innings of the game, he was pure dominance as he only allowed one baserunner to reach, but left him stranded. To close out the game in a non-save situation in the bottom of the 7th, Guite entrusted senior reliever Pasquale DeFilippis to get the final three outs. DeFilippis did so, but looked a little shaky, as he allowed a three-run home run.
The Tigers offense started out strong today thanks to two rbi-singles from sophomore Nick Lopez who singled home junior Joshua Duarte, both times. In the top of the 4th, the offense exploded for 6 runs. The inning is highlighted by a Jarrett Chapman homerun and Hank Schineller's bases-clearing triple. The other two runs came from a Bryan Sanders rbi-single and an FHU error. The Tigers would go on to score a run in every inning from there on out. In the bottom of the 6th, Schineller would hit his first home run of the day, and third of the season. All but two Tiger starters would reach base in game 1.
