5-Run 6th Leads Way For Tiger Win
The Tigers carried yesterday's success over to today by winning game one of the doubleheader against St. Francis (IL) 10-6. The trend of answering back when your opponent scores continued today as their 5-run 6th sealed the victory. The inning was led off by junior Bryan Sanders, who would walk and advance to second thanks to Enrique Morales' bunt. Junior Joey Lapolla would then put a ball into play and force the Saints to make a play, which they could not, and would lead to the Tigers first run of the 6th. Junior outfielder Joshua Duarte would then double home another run, to plate the second of the inning. The Tigers would then add two more runs courtesy of Nick Lopez and Jarrett Chapman. The Tigers would then score their last run of the inning, the same way that they scored the first, via an error when Hank Schineller plated Chapman. Some familiar names were responsible for the five other runs scored. Duarte was a part of 4 of 5 runs scored. He would triple in the 2nd to score two runs, score the first run in the game off a Lopez single, and would hit the last run in the 7th. Sanders scored the other run in the 3rd when he singled and scored Lopez. The Tigers offense managed to get 8 hits, but most of the offense came off of capitalizing on the Saints' six errors. Duarte led the way in game 1 by going 2 for 5 with 3rbi, and 2 runs scored. Lopez and Sanders also had good games at the plate for the Tigers!
The pitching for the Tigers to start off was not as dominant as yesterday, but it was a gritty four innings from junior Josiah Zamora. Zamora was hurt by the long ball as he gave up 3 HRs in his second outing of the year. Zamora's final line would end up being 4IP, 7H, 6ER, and 5K. Reliever Julian Huerta would be tasked with getting the final nine outs of the game and would do so with little doubt. In his 3rd appearance of the season, he would only see twelve batters, going 3 over the minimum. Huerta would get his second win of the season, as he would close this game out.
