Early runs do Tigers in against Lions

Jake Manderson had a slow start Friday in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, day two of the double-elimination. The freshman was touched up for three runs, but steady the ship to go eight in a 4-1 loss to Freed-Hardeman University.

That will be key as the Tigers (33-17) fall into the consolation bracket and must win three to make the finals and then when twice against the same opponent to win the title. Manderson struck out 11 and limited the Lions (25-21) to just one more run in the final seven innings.

GC's offense started hot as Dashon Moore reached on a dropped liner to right. Unfortunately, the team's aggressive approach was the undoing in the early innings. FHU picked off two runners in two innings to face the minimum hitters rather than face extended outings of work.

Brandon Krennrich got the lone blast of the day for the visitors. The senior drove a pitch over the right field fence for his second home run in as many days.

Georgetown returns for an 8:30 pm game this evening against Bethel University. It is a survive and advance mentality now for the Tigers.
