Tigers win two in extra innings
Georgetown College baseball hosted a best of three game series to open Mid-South Conference tournament play this past weekend. While the Tigers and Martin Methodist College only played two games, the two played a total of 27 innings in epic battles to advance to Bowling Green, Ky.
GC won both with walk off runs in the bottom of the 13th on Friday and bottom of 14th on Saturday. Friday's game was a wild scoring affair ended as Dashon Moore scored on Shota Usuda's single 12-11. Saturday was much closer and ended as Eric Thrower scored off a single by Trevor Waters.
Keon Taylor went five innings, shutting down the hot RedHawks offense in game one. He struck out six and allowed just one hit after MMC had scored 11 runs in the first eight innings. Brandon Krennrich came out from behind the plate in game two to go seven innings. He scattered four hits with seven strikeouts as the Tigers clinched a berth to the final site.
They join top-seeded University of the Cumberlands, second-seeded Freed-Hardeman University, fourth-seeded Lindsey Wilson College, fifth-seeded Bethel University and seventh-seeded Thomas More University. The Saints were the lone upset in the opening rounds and will move into the sixth seed spot vacated by their opponent Campbellsville University.
Georgetown will square off with TMU 5 pm Thursday at Hot Rod Stadium. Win or lose, the second game will be Friday.
