Brodt's single provides walk-off win
Georgetown College baseball always seemed to have the right hits at the right time Tuesday in a walk-off win against Indiana University Southeast. The Tigers (24-14) responded every time the Grenadiers (28-13) rallied.
The final answer came in the form of a one-out, bases loaded, single by Justin Brodt to give GC the victory. This was the third meeting between these teams, all games exactly a week apart, and the first win for Georgetown.
The Tigers started with a pair of runs with two outs in the first. Dashon Moore reached on a single, while Val Stammler was hit by a pitch. With two outs Luke Turino put the ball in play that IUS bobbled allowing Moore and Stammler to score.
Top of the third, the Grenadiers responded back with two runs of their own and pushed across a run in the top of the fourth for their first lead. GC scored in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
Southeast got a run in the fifth, but Turino took care of that with a two-run shot in the bottom half for a 5-4 game.
The next two innings were quiet until Stammler gave GC a much-needed insurance run with a solo home run in the eighth. Without that score IUS would have grabbed control in the ninth and the Tigers would have needed two for the win.
Instead the game was only tied after a couple of hits of Keon Taylor turned in to runs for a 6-6 game. The senior shut the door down after those runs and picked up the win when Brodt's blast to the center field fence scored Jacob Dezarn.
Georgetown is back in action 3 pm Wednesday as the team travels to Union College.
