Crusaders' offense too much in game three

Following a Saturday doubleheader that included a 15-inning affair, it was going to be a battle of stamina for Georgetown College baseball and Madonna University in the single-game Sunday. The Crusaders (4-5) were able to get the Tigers (13-7) pitching staff early as they pounded out 13 hits in nine innings for a 9-2 win at Robert N. Wilson Field.

Coach Micah Baumfeld went to his pen early and often, trying to find the right combination. GC used seven different pitchers. MU jumped out quick with two in the first and when the dust settled after the top of the fifth all nine visiting runs had scored.

With two-outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers found its only significant offense of the day. A two-out error kept the inning going long enough for Luke Turino to put one of the fence for the only runs by GC.

The home team stranded five on the day, never fully able to string enough hits together in an inning.

Georgetown is back in action 4 pm Tuesday hosting Union College.
