Tigers open conference play with a win

Great defense, timely hits, a good recipe on day one of Mid-South Conference baseball action. Georgetown College hosted Lindsey Wilson College and just beat the late afternoon showers to open the series Friday. The Tigers (4-2, 1-0) got out of a potentially dangerous first inning, aided by a tremendous double play, then went to work offensively and taking control of the game. The Blue Raiders (3-4, 0-1) got within a run before falling 6-2.

Johan Castillo picked up the complete game win, fanning three with eight ground and six fly outs. He threw 93 pitches.

Tigers showed no fear in the bottom half of the first, with two outs and multiple hitters facing two strikes. With two on and runners and second and first, Brandon Krennrich dug in and put the first runs on the board. His first two pitchers were strikes, he took a third pitch ball, fouled off the fourth and then doubled to deep right. His pinch runner Jacob Dezarn, stole third and then scored the winning run off a Nicholas Dilorenzo hit.

GC added insurance runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth to allow Castillo to close the door.

Luke Turino and Dilorenzo were the lone Tigers with multiple hits, while seven other teammates got a hit.

Rain pushed the doubleheader to Saturday with the first pitch schedule for 1 pm.
