Hitting skid cools off hot Tigers

Going into Thursday's quarterfinal showdown with Campbellsville University in the Mid-South Conference baseball tournament, Georgetown College had 440 hits. The No. 13 Tigers (42-12) now have 441. It was a rough day from the plate as the second-seeded Tigers went hitless for the first eight innings against two different three-seeded Tiger pitchers.

Nick Giambalvo kept it from being the first hitless game of the season with a single in the hole at short against a third Campbellsville pitcher, but GC could not translate that into any more offense. It is only the third time all season Georgetown has been held scoreless, first since Feb. 9.

Campbellsville's pitching staff dominated the game, striking out 12 while allowing GC to reach second only twice. CU broke the game open with two runs off of four hits in the third, adding an insurance run in the fifth. Two runs were scored on sacrifice flies, while bunts also played a huge role in helping Campbellsville's offense to get out in front.

Georgetown looks to get back to its high-powered offensive ways 11 am ET Friday in the consolation bracket. The Tigers will play University of Pikeville, which opened the tournament with a 6-5 loss to Cumberland University.

The loser of the game will be the first team to exit the tournament, while the winner advances to a Friday evening game.
