Tigers tally run-rule win over Union

To say Georgetown College baseball has found an offensive rhythm might be too mild of a statement. The Tigers (21-18) have scored a quarter of their entire season runs in the past four games. GC plated more than a dozen runs in a mercy-rule victory Tuesday against Union College. For the third straight game it was double digits in a 14-4 win at Robert N. Wilson Field.

Michael Koltak settled down after a rocky first inning, getting the win by going six of the seven innings. The senior scattered seven hits, allowed four runs with seven strikeouts.

Rodnee Little and John Shattles led the way as the only Tigers with two hits, however, GC made the most of the visitors' miscues. With two outs in the third of a 4-4 game, the home team plated nine runs – only one of which was earned.

A third ball strike dropped and thrown over the head of the first baseman opened the flood gates. It took a one-run lead out to a 13-4 game.

The run brigade started on the road this past weekend when Georgetown swept Mid-South Conference foe Shawnee State University, 9-0, 18-0, 16-1. GC managed 167 runs in the first 35 games.

"It's been a strange season of beautiful weather in early to mid-February, then we've been on a streak of trying to figure out games and schedules with rain and snow," said GC coach Micah Baumfeld. "We've got the hitters, we know that, just getting the reps has been key. We have a big test the next two days leading into our senior weekend."

The No. 15 Point Park University Pioneers come to Georgetown for two games over two days. This will be the final tune up before University of Pikeville comes to town Friday and Saturday for an MSC three-game series. Senior Day is officially Saturday and player introductions and honoring will be between games.

First pitch Wednesday against PPU is set for 6 pm at Robert N. Wilson Field.
