Tigers sweep Judson
Georgetown College baseball took two games Sunday from Judson College, which is receiving vote in the national coaches' poll. Shawn Dubin got it all rolling for his second win of the season. He retired 15 straight in a seven inning game and his lone blip occurred in the sixth inning as the Tigers (6-6) won 3-1.
In the top of the sixth, Judson got a lead-off triple, scored on a groundout and followed that with a single. Dubin got back to buckling down with his 11th and 12th strikeouts to end the inning. He tallied two more in the top of the seventh as he notched 14 total an average of two per inning.
Five Tigers got hits, Brandon Benson, Antonio Monroy, Adryan Ramirez, Ryan Garner and Chris Gilbody.
John Shattles and Ramirez tallied RBIs, while Phillip Tomasulo, Monroy and Ramirez scored.
Game two was another pitcher's duel that GC won 6-2 as the home team worked the count for four walks, multiple hit batters, three hits and a Judson error.
Breion Barron did the majority of the work on the hill for the Tigers with eight strikeouts, four hits and four walk. GC trailed for the only time all weekend in the top of the second as JU used a two-out rally to score one.
Georgetown scored three in the bottom half of that inning and never looked back. The home team added a run in the third and two in the bottom of the fourth.
Judson's lone spark came in the top of the sixth as David Matthews took his second pitch over the right field.
Javier De La Torre retired the only batter he faced to finish the sixth and Dorian Granados finished it off, striking out two of the three hitters he faced.
Georgetown is back in action 1 pm Friday hosting Saint Xavier University in a two day, four-game series.
